Het Lloydkwartier is the pre-war harbour of Rotterdam. It was constructed in the 19th and 20th century and buildings from that time are still visible today. In 1904 the Schiecentrale was built, which was the first electricity power plant of Rotterdam and in 1913 the warehouse Sint Jobsveem was constructed for handling and storing goods. In the course of the 20th century industrial work was moved out of the city, which resulted in the harbour no longer being in use around the 1990s. Today De Schiecentrale is in use by cafes, a hotel, creative companies and several film and tv studios. In addition St. Jobsveem was transformed into housing by MEI architects in 2007. This resulted in the area regaining liveliness and popularity amongst the inhabitants.
