Nieuwe Plantage is both a street and neighbourhood in the north of the city centre.

De Nieuwe Plantage comprises many contiguous two-, three- and four-storey townhouses with a wide green strip. The area is valuable due to the well preserved historical spatial structures that show the urban development related to the emergence of large-scale industry.

Landscape architect H.A.C. (Hugo) Poortman designed the park lay-out of the Nieuwe Plantage in 1894 according to the English landscape style. The city moat was filled in and the Vliet was diverted behind the houses of the Nieuwe Plantage and now forms the Rhine-Schie Canal. In this way, the Wallerpark was also created, now a rugged park forest next to the driveway of the Reineveldbrug.
