Mekelpark is the campus park of the TU Delft, that connects various faculties. It is 800 metres long and 80 metres wide. It forms a corridor for pedestrians, cyclists, skaters and public transport along a network of paths. The existing trees have been retained or replanted as much as possible. The former sunken carpark was transformed into slopes, which create height difference that are used for chilling. It is notable that there are no longer cars allowed in this central part of the TU campus. All the parking spaces on campus are situated on the “back” of the buildings, on the opposite side of the Mekelpark.

You may notice that across the TU Delft campus there is a blue line: this indicates the 52nd degree of latitude. 52° North hasn’t always been in this location. Because our continents constantly move due to plate tectonics, the line constantly shifts. Or to be precise: the line stays in place but the continent of Eurasia moves under it. The width of the black line is the shift per year.
